The fire station just down the street from us had a big open house - so of course we had to go! Aiden still loves fire trucks as much as ever and, lately, Brennan has been just as obsessed. Those boys were in heaven the entire afternoon we were there.
The place was swarming with people but we did manage to get around and see a lot of the stuff there. Those firemen and paramedics sure know how to put on a fun open house for kids! The boys each received a new fireman hat (to go with their collection at home), they got a tour of an ambulance, they got to listen to a fireman discuss all the equipment on a fire truck, they tried on "real" firemen clothes that were a few sizes too big, they got to see the air-med helicopter up close and watch as it lifted up in the air and flew off, and the coolest part - they got to see a controlled fire put out by the fire fighters and fire truck.
We were lucky Nate got to take a couple of hours off of work and go with us. Once he had to leave though, the kids still wanted to stick around to see more stuff so we met up with my friend Lindi and her kids. We got to see another fire demo and also watch as the firemen cut open a car. And we got to enjoy some cotton candy and popcorn. It was such a fun afternoon for all of us.
We're already looking forward to next year!
