October Stuff

We did so many fun things in October (besides Mexico and Halloween) and I took lots and lots of pictures.  So here goes:

{Lagoon with Brewers}
We went on a double date to Lagoon for Frightmares with Alison and Justin and it was so much fun!  We had a blast running from ride to ride and acting young and carefree again...except my body can't quite handle too much twisting and turning anymore.  We had never been there during Frightmares and it definitely brings out some interesting people that are VERY into Halloween.  So it made for some fun people watching.  It was such a great night!
 {General Conference}
General Conference is one of my favorite weekends!  I love getting to be uplifted by some of the leaders from our church and to spend time with family. I always print out Conference packets for the kids so they can try to pay attention as much as possible.  We had fun watching one of the sessions with some of the Tadjes and then we watched the other sessions at our house.  We especially loved looking for my mom in the choir!  We also went to Pizza Pie Cafe on Saturday (like we always do) and we hung out with my mom during the Priesthood session.  Between sessions on Sunday, we met up with my Blackham relatives in the canyon for omelettes and we enjoyed the beautiful weather up there.
 {Flag Football}
Aiden's football took up a lot of our free time this fall.  Aiden had a great time playing his first year of flag football and was so excited about each game and practice.  Nate was the coach and did an awesome job helping the 1st graders figure out what to do.  Because you can't start football until 1st grade, there was a big learning curve for all the kids on the team. Nate was always exhausted after each practice and game but he did a great job helping the 6-year-olds figure out positions and plays. Aiden progressed a lot during the season and we're already looking forward to next season!
After Aiden's last game, we went to U-Swirl for some frozen yogurt to celebrate a great season. Brennan loves football just as much as Aiden.  Hopefully he can play up a year next season because he is just as fast as most of the 1st graders.
We also lucked out that it was great weather for most of the games.  There was only one game that it was windy and freezing cold...but luckily Callie and I parked the car facing the field so I could watch the game and Callie could climb around in the car.
{Brennan & Callie}
Since Aiden is gone most of the day at school, Brennan and Callie have become great little buds.  We try to do fun activities together that both a one-year-old and a four-year-old like.  Since the weather was so beautiful during October, we would play outside a lot and go on walks to the park. One day we went on a nature walk to find some leaves and did leaf rubbings.
 {Picking pumpkins}
Picking pumpkins is a must in October.  We went to a fun little pumpkin patch spot not too far from our house and the kids loved running around finding their perfect pumpkin.
 The boys painted pumpkins one of the days...
...and we carved pumpkins at the Brewer's house another day.
{Brennan's smashed thumb}
Between all the fun in October, Brennan smashed his thumb REALLY bad in the front door.  His thumb immediately turned purple (from blood pooling under his nail) and he was in agony for a day and a half until we took him into Instacare.  The reason we waited to take him to the doctor was that Nate thought he could do the same little surgery at home...poke a needle through Brennan's thumb nail to relieve the swelling and drain the blood.  But let's just say trying to get a four-year-old (who is in a lot of pain) to hold still is near impossible.  Lots of tears were shed and after Nate got a little bit of blood to drain, we decided it was worth just letting a doctor do it.  So the next morning we went to Instacare and a lot of the blood was drained and he instantly felt a lot better.
His face does not hide emotion...he was not happy about Nate trying to poke a hole in his nail.
A slightly happier Brennan after the visit to Instacare...
{Hee Haws}
On a happier note, we went to Hee Haws with my mom one beautiful October day.  We love that place!  The kids especially loved the animal train, the huge white slide, the air compressor guns (that shot out corn), the corn box, and the hay ride.  I love our tradition of going there!
{BUNCO night}
I hosted Bunco night in October.  It is my new favorite girls night! I love my friends in this ward and we have so much fun eating treats, talking, getting/giving prizes, and playing BUNCO of course!  I was having too much fun to remember to take pictures during it, but I did take a picture of these yummy knock-off Swig sugar cookies we ate for our treat that night.
{Random pics from the month}
My mom gave the boys some Perler beads and they were obsessed with them non-stop for days.  Before school, after school, and as often as he could, Aiden would make his friends some fun things with those beads.
Every so often, we have game night with the Brewers.  They put their kids down for the night, turn on their video monitor, and come over for games and treats.  I usually don't take pictures of it, but I had to take a picture of my first poker game ever.  Of course we didn't gamble with money...we used candy instead :)
And here are a couple random pictures of Callie taking care of her baby doll.  She LOVES her dolls and loves to feed them, rock them, push them in the stroller, and give them hugs and kisses.  I love watching her pretend to be a little mommy!
{Playing in the leaves}
October also means lots and lots of leaves!  We spend a lot of time raking and the kids love to help.  The kids can be entertained for hours playing in the leaves.
