We had been looking forward to this big trip for a LONG time and the day finally arrived! We boarded a plane and headed for Orlando! We were all super excited to say the least.
Sadly, Brennan got sick right before the trip and lost his voice and had a cough. So he didn't feel 100% the first few days but he still managed to have fun...despite the time he coughed so hard on the airplane, he threw up on himself! That was not the best way to start the trip. But once we got to Florida, his adrenaline took over and his sickness didn't seem to bother him too much again. But luckily, no one else caught his sickness and the Florida weather seemed to clear his sickness right up!
We headed to Florida a few days before the rest of my family came so we got our own little family getaway for three days. It was fun to spend some quality time just the five of us. We rented a van (yes, Nate drove a VAN...and liked it!) and we stayed at a nice Sheraton resort. The first day was mainly just travel and then eating at IHOP when we got to Orlando and settling into our condo. The second day, we slept in (due to the time zone change) and then headed to the Orlando Science Center.
The Orlando Science Center is a HUGE museum for kids. It's normally $27 a person to go but since we have Thanksgiving Point passes, we got in for free! It felt good to save $100! The museum has stuff on four different levels...we stayed for three hours and still didn't have time to do a lot of the stuff there. Some of the areas they had were a mini construction zone, a weather station, a space center, a dinosaur exhibit with fossil digging, an alligator and turtle preserve, a "unique fish and insect" area, a huge car derby race track (that was the kid's favorite), flight and car simulators, and a water play area to name a few. The kids loved exploring there. It was a nice low key place to spend our first day there.
It wore Callie right out! Callie sleeping in the car or stroller was a common sight this trip...
When we got back, we headed for the pool! The Sheraton had a fun kid pool with slides and squirt guns. It was overcast but still A LOT warmed than Utah so the kids didn't mind jumping in the water at all.
That night we headed to Disney Springs to check out some of the fun stores there. The kids' favorite spot was the Lego Store..complete with Hulk made out of Legos and building tables for the kids. We ate at Earl of Sandwich and then headed to Goofy's Candy Shoppe for dessert.
On Friday, we were originally wanting to go to Sea World for the day since it was right next to our hotel, but when Aiden saw an ad for Legoland in a magazine and we saw how much the kids loved just the Lego store the night before, we decided we had to go to Legoland. And it turned out to be the perfect choice.
We woke up Friday morning and headed there...which was about 45 minutes away from where we were staying. Legoland is the perfect place for a 5-year-old and 7-year-old who love Legos. It is so family friendly and there were a lot of rides each of the kids could go on...even for Callie and me (being big and pregnant).
We were amazed walking into the park and seeing so many Lego creations...dinosaurs, Christmas trees, animals, people, etc. And we learned each is made by hand so it is even more amazing! The kids had fun having their pictures taken by some of them.
We first headed to Lego Duplo Land so Callie could go on some of the rides...like the train and tractor. She was so excited for those little rides.
The boys headed for the roller coasters and it was perfect because Brennan was tall enough to go on them too...so he didn't have to feel sad to miss out. I loved that about Legoland...it was perfect for these boys' ages.
There were many different "lands" at Legoland - Duplo Village, Chima, Lego City, Miniland, Lego Kingdoms, Fun Town, Lego Technic, Imagination Zone.
While Brennan and Nate went on the wooden roller coaster, I stayed back with Callie who thought the coaster was way too loud apparently :)
The animals on this safari ride were some of my favorites! The lego creations used different shades of each color to create dimensions and shadows on the animals and everything looked so real!
Miniland was incredible too! We learned that it took THREE long years of multiple people making each of these structures by hand. Miniland has different cities all over...with every single thing made of legos. They had Vegas, San Francisco, New York, Paris, NASA, Florida Keys, a make-believe pirate land, and lots of other cities. We were in awe of what goes into making those!
From far away, things don't even look like they are made of Legos, but up close it is incredible to see the teeny tiny Legos making up every last detail.
The kid's favorite land there was Lego City - where there was "Driving School" and "Boating School" and "Flight School". Boating school was so fun...until Callie insisted she steer and then got mad that we tried to help her :)
I had to take a picture of this Explorer for my parents...
After the boys did some of the bigger rides there, we made sure Callie got to ride some for her age group...like the train and carousel. She was in heaven.
It was such a great day with my little family! The kids will be talking about it for a long time I'm sure! After Legoland, we drove back towards Disney to meet up with my parents at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort...where we'd be staying the rest of our time in Orlando...
