fire truck party

Aiden is obsessed with all things fire truck...so what better way to celebrate his 3rd birthday than have a fire truck party?  We invited some of his closest friends and cousins to celebrate with us.  And after a little chaos due to the fact the firemen were out on a call (which I'll write about in a minute), it turned out to be a fun party!
We had a lot of fun preparing for the party. My mom and I created a fun fire truck cake.  I have done cut-up cakes for Aiden's 3 birthdays so far...and it definitely is Aiden's favorite part of birthdays.  He still talks about his train cake from last year.  And when he saw the completed fire truck cake this time he was just as excited!
Each kid got a fireman hat when they came to the party and then we played "pin the badge on the dalmatian". Then after singing to Aiden, we ate some little smokies, chips, drinks, and some cake of course.
(I still can't believe he is THREE!)

So the original plan of the party was to meet at the Cedar Hills Fire Station for a 30 minute tour, then head over to my parents house just a couple minutes away from there for cake and ice cream.  I originally scheduled us to go to the Cedar Hills Fire Station because they are not very busy because Cedar Hills is such a small city. Because my mom lives close to the fire station, she went multiple times during the week to make sure they were still planning on us.  I really did not want to show up and have no firefighters there to give us the tour. Well, 3pm came and everyone showed up - yet there was no fire truck and no firemen - they were out on a call.

So my parents and Nate decided to go to both the Highland and Alpine Fire Departments to see if we could possibly do a tour over there (because we had 15 kids anxious and excited to see an actual fire truck). Those fire stations were only about 10 minutes away from Cedar Hills so it would be easy to head over there.  In the mean time, the rest of us headed over to my parent's house to play some games and celebrate.  After a while of my parents trying to track down the paramedics, Nate banging on the windows at the Alpine Fire Station, and more chaos trying to figure out which fire station we could go to for the rest of the party, we got the go ahead to go on a tour of the Alpine Fire Station. I was SO relieved we had a fire station to visit!

The firemen in Alpine were awesome!  They took so much time with the little kids showing them each and every thing and the kids LOVED it!  The firemen showed the kids some equipment, let them touch the firemen jumpsuits, gave the kids a tour of the ambulance, let the kids hop in the fire truck to look around, and let the kids try on their heavy helmets and headphones. Aiden was in heaven.   It was so cute to watch him look around with so much excitement and to ask questions to the firemen about how everything works.
(trying to get all the kids to stand by the truck for a picture was next to impossible!)
Probably the coolest part of the trip to the fire station was that the firemen hooked their big truck up to a fire hydrant so they could squirt water all over and let the kids run around and get wet.  It was perfect that we ended up having to go to Alpine because they were able to do that in the field right there.  The kids LOVED it.
All of the adults stood at the back of the field to not get wet but the firemen tried aiming the water really far to get us wet too.
Aiden loved his party!  He loved spending time with his little friends AND he loved seeing the trucks up close and personal.  Thanks everyone who came to celebrate with us!

Sarah, this is SO adorable! The kids must have had such a blast. And that cake is so cute!!! I'd be talking about it a year later if I were Aiden, too. :)
