I am finally posting the last post from this great trip - Boston! This was my first time to Boston and it was such a cool place. It was extra great because I got to see Andrew and Melanie's house and hang out with them too!
We got in late on Thursday night and visited for a while before heading to bed. Friday morning we woke up early and headed to the subway station to go into downtown Boston. Aiden was super excited to ride his first subway. Boston is a busy place so it was good we rode the subway and didn't try to drive down there. First thing we did when we got there was walk through the Boston Public Garden and then rode on the swan boats. It's pretty crazy people pedal those boats around the water...my legs would be burning just doing it once around the lake!
After the boats, we started walking along the freedom trail. I didn't realize that the freedom trail is right though the heart of downtown Boston. It was a good refresh for my memory of US history and the details around the Revolutionary era. We saw many sites along the trail:
- an old cemetery (with Samuel Adams and Paul Revere and other important people buried inside)
- the Old State House
- Faneuil Hall (where many old meetings took place)
- Paul Revere's house
- and the U.S.S. Constitution and a museum all about it...and other historical places like the white church where the lanterns were hung and other churches and historical buildings.
(And Aiden got a Boston Red Sox shirt that has been his favorite shirt ever since)
We did a lot of walking around Boston to see all of those historical sites and it was definitely worth it. What an amazing city! We had lunch at this yummy Italian restaurant in Little Italy and Aiden's personal pizza was HUGE! This picture just makes me laugh:
We also ate at Mike's Pastries which is a must in Boston. That night we hung out at Andrew and Melanie's and played some games before bed.
The next morning we had a couple of hours to hang out in Boston before our flight left for Utah. We went to Lexington and Concord for the morning We walked across the famous North bridge and then we went to the Minuteman National Historical Park Museum. We watched an interesting multimedia presentation on the night of Paul Revere's ride and we walked around the museum. I had forgotten a lot of details of how the Revolutionary War began so it was interesting to relearn what happened. US history has always fascinated me.
After the museum, we drove to the Boston temple real quick and then headed to the airport.
Besides the fact that I left our iPad in the rental car (luckily we eventually got it returned to us!), this trip was incredible! We were all over the place during the week we were back east and I loved every place we visited. I am so happy Aiden got to tag along too. He was the BEST traveler and Jackson and him got along so well the entire time. It was an amazing trip and one we won't forget!
