We had a wonderful time on our annual camping trip with my
parents up at Timpanooke. For the most
part, it was good weather. It rained a
little on Saturday and on Monday morning but we didn’t let the rain stop our
fun. It was Callie’s first time camping
and I was originally a little nervous camping with a 2 ½ month old, but she did
awesome! She loved being outside and she
slept better than ever before in the tent each night. The boys were in heaven too. They LOVE being outside. They spent their time playing baseball and Frisbee,
throwing rocks in the river, helping Nate and my dad find firewood, roasting
marshmallows, playing games, hiking around, and getting really dirty. They are sure in their element when we are camping.
We went on a long hike on Saturday on the Timpanogas Trail. I love hiking as a family. The boys keep up with us just fine and they hardly complained about being too tired. They are tough little guys.
There were LOTS of people on the Timp trail that day because Saturday is a big day for hikers to go up to the top of Timp. One group of college-aged hikers came down and they were deep in conversation about relationships. One of the girls said loudly, "I'm not attracted to redheads" just as she was walking by Nate. Well Nate was wearing his infamous old straw hat (so obviously she didn't see the hair) but he stopped right there, took it off, and said, "what was that?!" When she noticed his red hair, she got super embarrassed and didn't know what to say. It was SO funny seeing her and her friends reaction. We all couldn't stop laughing about it. She couldn't have timed her comment any better.
On Sunday morning, Nate and our boys were on a little hike and spotted a huge moose! They came back to our campsite and all five of us loaded in our car and we drove right by the moose to see it up close. Our boys thought that was pretty cool.
We also enjoyed LOTS of yummy "camping food" while we were up there - like tin-foils, dutch oven, hot breakfasts each morning, and smores. And Nate brought up about 5 pounds of candy too. So we ate a little too well up there! Good thing we were walking and hiking lots to burn everything off! It was so fun spending the weekend with my parents. We enjoyed staying up late and talking around the fire and playing some games too.
It is LOTS of work to pack for it and to unpack from it (I think I did 12 loads of laundry yesterday!) but it is so worth it! We always have a great time!
