January 2020

Now with the new rule of being ordained a Deacon the January of the year you turn 12, Aiden was preparing to receive the Priesthood.  So we headed to Mr Mac, where his cousin Jaxson works, and got fitted for a suit!  Jaxson helped him get suited up and he looked so sharp! He didn't receive the suit that day because it needed a few alterations, but I made sure to snap a pic of these two cousins.
Nate went skiing with Jason & Rich up at Snowbird one day.  I'm so glad Nate loves to ski and has buddies to go with! He really wants me to learn so we can go together so one day I need to bite the bullet and do it so we can go on ski dates. He'd be one happy husband!
I love living so close to the Brewers!  It makes for fun play dates.  They came over one day with these little building toys and I honestly didn't see them for over an hour because they were so content playing with the little blocks.
Nate took the boys to the Monster Jam and they had the best time! The boys couldn't stop talking about it after so I know they loved it :)
Callie and I had a fun girls night while they were away - complete with a chick flick and a Crumbl cookie! And we picked up Aiden's new suit at Mr Mac.
The next Sunday Aiden got to wear his new suit when he was ordained a Deacon  After church, a member of our bishopric came over and joined our family (along with Diane, my parents, and Becca) and Nate ordained him a Deacon.  It was such a special day and I am so proud of him for following in the Savior's footsteps!
Graham started a new preschool because of our move and here he is on his first day! He was a little nervous like he always gets when he tries new things (KidFit, Sunbeams, etc). His preschool is at the Legacy Center and I love that it's close and convenient and that Graham gets to interact with other kids and have a few hours away from mom each week so he can be big (because if it was up to him he'd stay next to me 24/7!)
Nate's dad passed away on January 10th.  I did a separate post about it to go into more detail about it all.  It was a hard week leading up to his death, but we also felt a lot of love and peace with his passing knowing he is free from his physical body and close by in the Spirit World.  We were the recipients of a lot of love and service during the week following Dave's passing.  We felt so loved.  Nate's boss had Magelby's deliver dinner to us for three nights (and the food was incredible!) and we received flowers, cookies, donuts, and treats from other friends and family.
'
The day Dave passed away, we all gathered at Diane's to spend some time as a family and look through old pictures and memories.  These boys were enjoying some of the gems they found.
Not sure when I took this picture, but Callie's static hair was pretty epic! :)
My little errand buddy...we stopped at the playground at the mall and he was in heaven.
And he loves pushing the mini cart at Trader Joes.
The day after the funeral I woke up feeling awful.  I had a sore throat that felt like shards of glass in my throat (really it was that bad!) and a crazy headache and fever.  For the next week I literally stayed in bed or on the couch and felt horrible like never before.  I never got officially tested, but I know it was the flu. I've never had the flu before but it was horrible. And just as I started feeling a tiny bit better, Brennan, Callie, and Graham came down with it! I've never seen them so sick before. They all had fevers that didn't respond to medication easily so they were all miserable. They all took turns waking up in the middle of the night feeling like the couldn't breathe which was really scary.  It was a LONG, hard week. The kids missed a whole week of school.  I will definitely not skip the flu vaccine for the fam next year!
Callie lost her front tooth during the sickness and was excited when the tooth fairy came....even though the tooth fairy was a couple days late.  Oops!
I found these little pictures Graham drew - his first little people.  I had to document :)
When I finally felt better, I did my first Citrus Pear class with my girlfriends from AF and had a lot of fun.  It's a great idea to prep 20 freezer meals for busy nights I have nothing planned for dinner.  We've tried a few different meals so far and my family *mostly* liked them.
And that sums up January.  Honestly, between Dave being in the hospital, his passing, and then having our family get the flu, it was a really hard month.  We were excited when it was over and to hopefully get the year off to a better start from February onward.
